Construction Management (CM)

Construction Management i.e CM is also known as Construction Project Management i.e. CPM. Construction Management in Civil Engineering is very important. Today, India is that the second-fastest growing economy within the world. Construction Management plays a vital role in civil engineering because without management in the construction field or construction site it is very difficult to survive and it will not give accurate results at the final stage of the structure.

The aim of Construction Management (CM) or Construction Project Management (CPM) is to regulate a project's time/delivery, cost, and quality, sometimes mentioned as a project management triangle or triple constraints. The construction sector is that the second largest employer in our country. The construction sector is an important part of the industrial sector and one of the core sectors of India's economy. Therefore all the construction sector industries are based on the construction management in India.

Some of the coordinated definitions of Construction Management i.e. CM have been given below:

Some Construction Management definitions also mentioned below,

“In simple words Construction Management i.e. CM is the translation of drawings or specifications and design into a real production facility or infrastructure”

“The physical facility must impart planned output, stated quantity, and quality parameters within scheduled time and cost observing  requisite specifications.”

Construction Management i.e CM is also known as Construction Project Management i.e. CPM is that the overall planning, coordination and control of a project from commencement to completion aimed toward meeting a client’s requirements so as to supply a functionally and financially reasonable project.”

There are different definitions are given below by various scientists:

According to “Kwaku A. Tenah”,Construction Management i.e. CM is a specialized firm or organization which furnishes all the administrative and management services of a general contracting organization as well as all of the consulting services necessary and as needed by the owner from planning through design and construction to commissioning.”

According to “O’ Brien”, Construction Management i.e. CM is the composite of all modern project management methodologies having as their objective, the control of time cost and quality in the design and construction of a new facility.”

Following are the types or categories of constructions are mentioned,

1.    Residential Building Construction
2.    Non-Residential Building Construction
3.    Military Construction
4.    Heavy Construction
5.    Highway Construction
6.    Marine Construction

Sectors of Infrastructural Development in Construction Management System:

1.    Power:
India is the fifth largest electricity generation capacity in the world. Power generation capacity of 122 GW; 590 bn units produced (1 unit = 1 kWh), Compound annual rate of growth 4.6% over the last four years.

2.    Roads:
India is the second-largest road network in the world. An extensive road network of 3.3 m per km.

3.    Railways:
Railways is also the second-largest network in the world. Also the largest rail network in Asia. India has 6853 stations, 37,840 coaching vehicles, 300 yards, 2300 good sheds, 700 repair shops, 7566 locomotives, and 2,22,147 dragons over the country.

4.    Airports:
In India 125 airports are available. Also in 125 airports, 11 are designated international airports. In India privatization is progress in Mumbai and Delhi airports. Also in India New International Airports is Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

5.    Ports:
In India, Major ports are 12 and Minor ports are 185. Public-Private Partnership is seen by the government because the key to enhance Major and Minor ports.

6.    Urban Development:
In India, the total urban population on 1st March 2018 was 450 Million. For the development of urban places, the construction management concept is most important.

PROFESSIONAL CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT in Civil Engineering:

Modern breakthrough technology has made construction complex. the housing industry more substantially contributes to the national growth and economy of a nation. As is documented, construction is the second-largest economic activity in India, along with the mining industry, next only to agriculture.

The scope and the volume of the development industry is directly proportional to the expansion of the population. With the ever-increasing population, the need for housing and industry enhances. At an equivalent time, it provides employment on a bigger scale. The essential human needs have also not changed in spite of technological booms everywhere on the planet.
Construction creates large-scale employment, which by itself is a significant contribution to the Indian economy. Today, the development of high rise buildings, dams, barrages, metro rails, cable-stayed bridges, high chimneys, newer industrial corporations, etc. are now undertaken easily thanks to intelligent design and newer technologies having been evolved.

Also, construction projects, both during construction and therefore the lifetime of the operation, significantly affect the environment in numerous ways. At an equivalent time, the consumption of energy, the discharge of atmospheric emissions, the utilization of raw materials, the generation of waste, and therefore the occupation of land are all effects that still build because the world's population grows and prospers.

As the Third World countries become more industrialized, the earth is becoming more fragile and sensitive thanks to continuing indiscriminate developmental activities. Observing all the sporadic development now, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) scoring the system, developed by the Green Building Council, represents a holistic approach to the planning, construction, and operation of building structures, LEED has established a road map which will be employed by 'design-build teams' to construct more sustainable (green) buildings.

In India, Construction is that the second-largest economic activity after agriculture. Construction accounts for nearly 65% of the total investment in infrastructure and it will grow day by day, year by year. Investment in construction accounts for nearly 11% of India’s Gross Domestic Product i.e. GDP.
